Christantus Uche Sparks Dominant Palace Win at Shelbourne.
Despite entering their first-ever European adventure, Crystal Palace are adapting very quickly. Without star figures like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the London club left Dublin with a comfortable win that all but guarantees them a place in the Conference League playoffs.
A further victory in their upcoming match against Finnish KuPS ought to be sufficient to secure straight passage to the last 16, especially after a previous setback against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Grasp the Opportunity
This match offered a chance for some of Palace's fringe players to shine. Christantus Uche, making only his second start since joining on loan from Getafe, opened the account with a well-taken finish. Forward Eddie Nketiah added a second, finding the net for the second consecutive match.
The Shelbourne team that had finished their domestic season were outmatched even for a largely second-string Palace outfit. The Londoners were further weakened by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with knee problems.
Control Asserted from the Outset
Despite heavy rain in Dublin, Palace rapidly took control. A flowing move in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, allowed Nketiah to lay on Uche for a simple finish.
Youngster Adam Wharton went close minutes later, fizzing a long-range effort over the bar. Nketiah then claimed for a penalty after bursting into the box, but the official waved away the appeals.
The formerArsenal striker did not have wait long to get his goal, tapping home from a yard out after Uche's effort had hit the post.
Shelbourne were hanging on desperately. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to escape a booking for a couple of robust tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the crossbar with a header from a corner.

The match was as good as over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past a series of weak challenges before calmly slotting a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
After the break, coach Oliver Glasner took the chance to rest several players like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse came close to scoring his first touch, only to see his effort blocked.
The youngster was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one shot strike off each posts before being gathered on the line. Uche also blazed a sitter of a chance, showing there is still scope for improvement in his game.
The only concern for Palace was a late knock to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This paved the way for 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to make his first-team debut, rounding off an otherwise positive night for the traveling side.
