Feeling So Sick Walking Was Impossible When a Man Virtually Carried Me to a Bathroom.

During my my late teens, my regular journey to work was on an express bus. It remained crowded and invariably became standing room only when I got on.

One particular morning, I started experiencing incredibly sick when the coach swayed around every turn. I continuously reassured myself to persevere for a few more stops so the bus could arrived at my stop, and then I could rush hurriedly for the nearest public toilet to vomit.

As we neared the street towards the stop when I realised I would not be to hold on. Suddenly, it seemed a fog descended upon me. The world became blank and silent; similar to when one turned off the audio. I said to myself, “I will lose consciousness”.

Fortunately, I stood near the front on the bus, allowing me to take a few steps to ask the driver and told the operator to pull over, telling him I needed to vomit. The driver opened the entrance and I stumbled out out onto the street.

I was resolved not to vomit in front of six lanes of traffic, so I picked myself up and began attempting to stumble across to the park across the road, thinking I could it would allow me to find some privacy near some foliage to throw up. But then I likely blacked out. I was aware of my body but I was unable to walk or see clearly, so I began crawling towards the grassy area.

“Are you okay, dear?”

In that instant, I was lifted up. I felt a strong arm supporting me and heard a man say, “Everything alright, love?” I managed to tell the mysterious stranger that I required to be sick. Therefore, he almost helped me walk down into a close-by structure and put me in the ladies’ toilets. He inquired if I wanted him to stay with me but I said no.

A few minutes later, I felt better to the point of sitting on the restroom floor and from the other side of the door I heard him ask, “Are you OK, love? Is there anything you require?” I was incapable to stand up at that moment but I did succeed to express my gratitude and shortly thereafter regained the function of my legs. I got myself home passing several days healing from which was a severe stomach virus.

I never glimpsed that man’s face – merely his legs along with a sizable metal toolbox he was carrying – but he helped me, at a moment I was completely helpless.

Often this world can make you self-protective, pushy, and rivalrous. His was the sort of gesture that reverses that protective shell. He demonstrated that our default setting is towards kindness, something I love about my fellow humans.
