Thrice-crowned MVP Nikola Jokic sustains a 'heartbreaking' injury to his knee.
Triple NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic sustained a "heartbreaking" injury to his knee as the Denver Nuggets lost 147-123 against the Heat.
Jokic sustained the injury in the latter stages of the opening half during an accidental coming together with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.
His teammate landed on the footwear of Jokic, and he instantly went down to the court clutching his leg.
The veteran player, who tops the NBA this season in boards and assists, posted a score of 21 points and eight assists in the contest before incurring the setback.
Jokic is scheduled for an MRI on the following day to determine the extent of the issue.
"Instantly, Jokic understood there was a problem," commented Denver head coach Adelman.
"Injuries are part of the game. Anyone that suffers an injury, that's tough to see, especially somebody as special as Jokic. More information will come tomorrow."
"The team will adjust as a team. Obviously, currently, I'm more concerned about Jokic personally and the disappointment of going through a situation like that."
